Gole dell’Alcantara

A must-see for nature lovers, the enchanting Alcantara Gorge is located near Francavilla di Sicilia in the Alcantara Valley, where the river of the same name flows. The gorges, up to 25 metres high, were created by the icy waters of the Alcantara River, which thousands of years ago, in contact with incandescent lava, formed walls of basaltic prisms.

The rock formations are truly spectacular and definitely worth a visit. During your visit to the Gorge, you can access the small pebble beach or enjoy many activities including canyoning in the river, quad biking, body rafting and the ever-popular Jeep tour.

The “Gole Alcantara” Botanical and Geological Park is located 25km from Macchia di Giarre.
